We wanted to pass Croatia without the traffic jams from the coast side, so we drove through small roads from Bosnia, crossing very beautiful landscapes, but mainly empty of life. We saw many many destroyed houses, and the Balkans war was 25 years ago! After watching the movie ‘A perfect day’ we understand better why the houses remain without roof… And we can read already about a possible new Balkans war in 2018, the part of the country called Republika Srpska wants the independence…
Julio had already told us that he was amazed because in Sarajevo many buildings remain as the war left them, and we saw that in the countryside it was the same.
We must tell that this area where we drove was of course near Croatia, and there were many Croatian flags everywhere…
Hanna was surprised by the shape of Croatia, such a narrow piece of land next to the coast… if the objective was leaving Bosnia without sea they got it.
Here some pictures (and later a video) from the Bosnian landscape we crossed.
Een beetje verdiepen in de historie luitjes, en dan weet je snel genoeg waarom er zoveel kapotgeschoten én tevens niet affe nieuwbouwhuizen staan in Republika Srpska. Come on!
Yep, you’re rlght. I know nothing about Balkans history and we just slept one night in Bosnia, and no contact with locals. My posts are basically primary impressions, I did not pretend anything else. But you can believe that now I’m more interested in what happened around there… 😛
And… these empty and destroyed buildings are not from Republika Srpska but from the rest of the country (the road that follows the Croatian border).
I will tell you all about it 😉 And no worries, but just a bit of historical sense wont harm
As you know not everybody has ‘peace studies’ and has lived for almost one year in Balkans… 😛
But, yes, now I’m very interested in trying to understand why there is a ‘Republika Serbia’ inside of Bosnia-Herzegovina. So next time we meet we’ve got something to talk about 🙂 (a part from bikes and public transport planning and VW trips…)
